BACKGROUND |

|
Born 2343 to Owen and Leigh Boone, Chris had an average (to him) childhood. He often found fascination with all the usual boy things, things like frogs, bugs, and mud in early childhood; when he'd reached the age of 12, his attention turned more to an interesting pastime: boxcar racing. He would spend hours working on and racing the old Earth contraptions, much to the chagrin of his mother, who often insisted she was fully convinced that the car would flip over and kill him. Owen, while never contradicting his wife publicly, silently approved of his son's interest, feeling that it kept the boy out of more serious trouble. This fascination for driving things led to a desire to join Starfleet and to become a pilot. So whenever he had some spare time (and wasn't doing something involving boxcars), he studied manuals on Starship piloting. When Chris was 15, he met and very quickly befriended a 17 year old boy, Kyle Hurst, whose family was new to the neighborhood. They talked for most of the day on boxcar racing. Kyle then took Chris over to his house, where he showed his own boxcar to the fascinated younger boy. However, Chris' fascination with the car quickly ended when Kyle's 14 year old sister, Laura, came out to see what her brother was doing. While Laura was considered plain by some and a tomboy to others, Chris was struck by her uniqueness. While her parents didn't approve of dating before 16, Chris managed to 'conveniently' see her whenever possible over the next two years, while befriending the rest of the Hurst family. When Laura turned 16, Chris started dating her. Eventually, the day came for Chris to apply to Starfleet Academy, and he passed the entrance exam with flying colors. Although he thought that being a Starfleet cadet would put a cramp in his dating Laura, he discovered, much to his delight, that she also harbored a desire to join Starfleet. A year later, she also passed the entrance exam (with flying colors, no less...) and majored in the sciences. At the end of his second term and her first, Chris finally worked up the nerve to pop the question, to which she readily agreed. Some of the other cadets later told him that his shouts of joys could be heard as far away as Alpha Centauri. A year later, they had a son, whom they named Kevin. Chris served his cadet cruise on the USS Falcon, earning high marks from both the CO and Chief Conn Officer. After he graduated, he was assigned to the USS Madison. Laura was assigned to a science vessel, the USS Kissinger, after her graduation. Kevin was shuffled between the two every few months in order to spend as much time as possible with each parent.
Again, Chris' performance earned recognition from his CO and department
chief, and quickly worked his way up to Assist. Chief Conn Officer and the
rank of lieutenant junior grade. When the Defiant-Class USS Courtier was
launched in 2372, Chris was given the position of Chief Conn Officer and
the rank of lieutenant. Chris managed to keep the attacking Dominion vessels occupied long enough for a nearby Klingon fleet to come in to assist, but it was more than the Courtier could take, and Starfleet was forced to dismantle the Courtier for parts for other vessels. Chris was transferred to the USS Sabre as the Chief Conn Officer. A short time later, he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant commander. In 2376 he was promoted to the rank of commander and made the executive officer of the USS Cortez when the previous XO was given his own command.
A short time later, the USS Prometheus returned to Earth for debriefing
following a mission that put them up against creatures reported to be
either the Furies or similar to the Furies. While the ship's CO, Cmdr.
Mackenzie Hawkins, was reporting to Starfleet Command the details of the
mission, and discussing his future with them, it was decided to send the
ship to a nearby location to assist with the running of a project that
could help bring the USS Voyager home. The Cortez was also at Earth for
crew rotation and shore leave, and it was decided that Chris would be
placed in temporary command of the Prometheus during this time.
