BACKGROUND

Ryan was born on Earth, the second of seven children. His parents, Robert and Mary, worked for the Cherokee Nation as cultural representatives. From an early age, Ryan had a fascination with traveling among the stars. This was due to the fact that his parents often took their children along as they went off-world, teaching others about the Cherokee way of life. Ryan learned to have a respect for life, as well as an eagerness to learn about the ways of various Earth cultures, especially Native American.

When Ryan turned 18, he entered Starfleet Academy, majoring in security and minoring in exobiology. The selecting of security as a major was due to the fact that Ryan felt drawn to the warrior aspect of the early Cherokee; the selecting of exobiology as a minor was due to Ryan's facination with life.

After graduation, he was posted to the U.S.S. Yosemite as a security guard where he served for two years. After the Yosemite was badly damaged in a battle with Dominion vessels, it was put into drydock, and many of the the junior officers were shuffled off to other ships during this time; Ryan was posted on the Atlantis.

In the months that followed Ryan, the Atlantis' XO, Holden Knomen, and CMO, Christopher Faulk, were temporarily reassigned to then newly-commissioned U.S.S. Icelander under the command of Admiral Jay Sarholland. Their orders were to head to Rhodreas VI, Knomen's father's homeworld, to help hunt down an anti-provisional-government Rhodrean militia. Little did they know that Sarholland had secretly struck a clandestine deal with certain ambitious Rhodrean politicians, who offered advanced technologies in exchange for assistance in setting up Knomen as a scapegoat for a Dominion attack on Rhodreas VI in 2374 to secure their own continuation in office. After being abducted by the militia (secretly funded by the conspirators to serve their agenda), Knomen was apprehended with them by government forces and nearly tried for rebellion against the Republic as a member of the resistance. Ryan, Faulk, and the crew of the Icelander, investigating Sarholland's unwillingness to act on Knomen's behalf, discovered the admiral's duplicity and rescued Knomen. Sarholland and the conspirators were arrested on the grounds of conspiracy and treason.

After Ryan, Faulk, and Knomen returned to the Atlantis, Ryan was promoted to the position of Assistant Security Chief, with the rank of lieutenant junior grade. After trehe years, he took up a teaching position at Starfleet Academy.

PERSONALITY PROFILE 

Ryan is friendly, humorous, and can be outgoing to those he knows. However, like anybody who works in security-related fields, he can be very suspicious. (One of his favorite sayings is, "Just because you're paranoid, it doesn't mean they're not out to get you.") He can be opinionated and occasionally very stubborn, especially when it comes to dealing with something he believes very strongly in. He loves nature, often running holodeck programs of natural setting, both real and of his own creation; however, he still prefers the real thing over a bunch of photons and force fields (but then, who doesn't?).

PHYSICAL PROFILE

Ryan stands at 6'2" and weighs in at 179 lbs. As he is Cherokee, his hair is black, his eyes are brown, and his skin is dark.
